This selection of the most beautiful medieval towns in Germany are not the most famous places in the country. But some of these towns and cities were recognized as World Heritage Sites. Or at least they are frequented by thousands of tourists. They are corners of Germany that invite you to travel back in time, as if they were the scenery of a medieval tale.

Now we do unfold a list in two parts of some of the most beautiful medieval towns in Germany (and cities), scattered throughout different parts of the country:

1. A city with 3,000 historic buildings (Bamberg)

The Germans themselves often refer to this destination as the “Franconian Rome”, (with a historic center that survived for centuries, and managed to survive disasters like World War II without major damage).
