As the economic crisis hit Greece, the development and the sale of many hotels and villas on the Greek islands has been postponed. Many of those buildings remained unfinished, Waiting for a better time that finally never came.
The Dutch photographer Patrick Van Dam he traveled around Greece to illustrate some of the unfinished buildings. Patrick went on to say…
The projects were developed in the most wonderful and unique places. On slopes with stunning views of the sea or in mountains surrounded by olive trees, full of privacy and serenity.
The architectural lines, combined with the ash gray concrete structures, create an attractive contrast against the rugged red rocks, tall warm yellow grass, and olive green bushes and trees. This almost abstract landscape shows a unique synergy between architecture and nature.
A new and intriguing landscape is created in which failure, poverty and hopelessness are easily forgotten.
