Alesund and its great “art nouveau” architecture

The reconstruction of Alesund

In 1904 the city of Alesund suffered a terrible fire which forced him to change his appearance. The fire destroyed buildings, houses and everything that he found in his way in the sixteen hours that he was active. Only about 200 houses stood, leaving approximately 10,000 people homeless.

After the catastrophe, it was decided to rebuild Alesund immediately. For this, it was thought to follow the architectural model art nouveauin fashion at the time.

Secondly, to learn about the history of the city before the fire you can go to the Sunnmore Museum. It is open air and is made up of more than 50 old houses. You can enter them and get to know first-hand the traditions of the town and also of the country.
