Among the most beautiful villages in France, Domme (in the Dordogne)

In a recent post, we talked about a French valley where medieval “hanging” villages abound… between cliffs, at the foot of cliffs, or on top of them, in the region of Dordogne. The truth is that in the list of towns we have been left out (once again) another of the tourist beauties of France that has changed little over time: the town of Domme. In fact, it is part of the list of the the most beautiful villages in Francea series of historic farmhouses scattered throughout the territory, recognized with a title that invites you to plot an endless tour of the country.

The town of Domme, or Doma, is located in the Aquitaine region, also in the Dordogne, and is a fortified town in a very particular way, both because of its history since the 13th century, and also because it has been adapted to a fairly complex, where the streets adapt to the natural geography. The result is (once again) a charming city overlooking the valley featuring the Dordogne River, between walls, fortified gates and towers.

Domme is an eminently rural and tourist town, with barely 1,000 inhabitants. Perhaps a respite from an itinerary through the Dordogne, or a longer stop, as the photos invite us to stop.
