The “New World” shopping center in Bangkok, Thailand, has been abandoned and lifeless since 1997but not quite.

The roofless four-story structure has already been inundated with several feet of rainwater, turning the place into a paradise for a wide variety of fish.

The stores, which were built in 1982, rose to a height of 11 storiestowering above all the surrounding buildings, but it was later revealed that the developers of the project they only had permission to build up to 4 floors.

In 1997, the Supreme Court of Thailand ordered the demolition of a 7-storey extension to the mall, leaving a large hole in the roof. With the years, the rain was depositing on the ground floor of the shopping center forming a shallow pond and, subsequently, a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

To combat the mosquito problem, area residents they bought fish of various species and released them into the water to eat these mosquitoes and larvae.

Apart from the residents, few people knew about the fish pond until a few days ago when some photos were shared on Facebook. That attracted a large number of curious visitors (yes, alarmed by the municipal authorities, since the building is not safe).

***Update***
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) decided to remove the fish from the building.
