The ecological blue flag of Costa Rica allows us to differentiate the beaches that are sustainable and that offer high quality services.
In Europe the Blue flag It symbolizes that a beach has a high quality and is something that many tourists tend to look for. In Costa Rica, the so-called Ecological Blue Flag has been awarded every year, which aims to be another attraction for national and international tourists looking for high-quality beaches where they can spend wonderful vacations.
Costa Rica has awarded the Ecological Blue Flag to 107 beaches in 2018This year the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers has been evaluating the water quality of the different Beaches, which allows us to take stock of those who deserve the flag and those who do not. This aspect is one of the most important since otherwise it would make it not a suitable beach to enjoy a bath.
In 2018 some 107 beaches already have the flag so that it can wave at the entrance and be one of the additional incentives for visitors. Having sustainable beaches that respect the environment are two of the many objectives that are intended to be achieved when awarding the flag.
Quality beaches
In addition to granting Ecological Blue Flag, from Costa Rica it is intended to offer a different distinction to the beaches that deserve it with different stars. Those beaches that comply with excellent sea water quality, access to drinking water for visitors, have garbage cans, environmental education and safety, obtain a star.
If they meet other criteria such as surveillance, signs of marine currents, health services, tourist information, vehicles for people with disabilities, they will gradually obtain different stars until 5, which is the maximum number. Most of the beaches have a star and allow tourists to spend a few pleasant vacation practicing water sports and sunbathing.
Guanacaste is usually the province that has the greatest number of beaches with the ecological blue flag, although other places in the country such as Puntarenas, the Caribbean and the Pacific, obtain quite positive results every year and have beaches to be taken into account by its quality.
