Lourinha, in Portugal, and its Dino Park

In Lourinha, an hour from Lisbon, a Dino Parque, an open-air museum with life-size recreations of dinosaurs, has opened this February.

Lourinha It is a Portuguese city that is considered one of the European capitals of dinosaurs. Located to the north of Lisbon, less than an hour’s walk from the capital, in the surroundings of this cistern town, numerous dinosaur fossil remainsboth bones and footprints.

Considered one of the most important fossil collections in the world, the Lourinha Museum was already opened in its day, with the paleontology section as one of the most important in the museum, and today it has been opened the dino park. This place is a theme park dedicated entirely to dinosaurs, an open-air museum which has opened its doors this February 2018 and which aims to become one of the points of tourist interest in this area, more famous for its beaches, such as those of Nazaré, than for anything else.

What can we find in this Dino Park? In the ten hectares of the forest the life-size recreations of more than a hundred species of dinosaurs from different eras, including the largest predators found in Europe, which a little over a hundred million years ago roamed freely on those same lands. At the entrance, visitors will pass through a museum and a laboratory, to get to know the world of paleontology in depth.

This open-air museum, a project that has cost just over 3 million euros, is a place that will hook everyone equally. Both for those older people who were fascinated by the world of dinosaurs in their day and for today’s children who have awakened interest in these creatures that inhabited the planet millions of years ago.
