Monument to Harley Davidson in Littleport, England

William Harley He was born in the town of Littleport (Cambridgeshire county, England), in May 1835. At the age of 24 he left his hometown for Oswego, in the United States, where joined the army.

There, he fought on the side of the unionists in the American Civil War.

William Harley’s son, William SylvesterHarleywas born in the United States in 1880 and, 23 years later, founded Harley-Davidson Motor Company with Arthur Davidson in 1903.

The monument that we see in this post, and that is situated in Littleport, opposite St. George’s Churchit was commissioned to celebrate the company’s centenary in 2003 and is regularly visited by bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country.

The Littleport motorcycle statue, which you are allowed to ride for photos, stands like a Little-known connection between a small English town of less than 10,000 inhabitants and the most famous brand of American motorcycles.

Around the motorcycle you can read: «William Harley whose son Williams S. Harley co-founded the Harley-Davidson Motor Company» (William Harley, whose son Williams S. Harley co-founded the Harley-Davidson Motor Company).

Some members of the harley family they still live in the Littleport area.
