William Harley He was born in the town of Littleport (Cambridgeshire county, England), in May 1835. At the age of 24 he left his hometown for Oswego, in the United States, where joined the army.
There, he fought on the side of the unionists in the American Civil War.

William Harley’s son, William SylvesterHarleywas born in the United States in 1880 and, 23 years later, founded Harley-Davidson Motor Company with Arthur Davidson in 1903.
