With this miraculous method, you won’t have to discard your favorite glasses. Glassware is among the most frequently used kitchen items in homes. Over time, glasses are repeatedly taken from cupboard shelves and placed on tables or countertops, resulting in wear, scratches, and loss of their initial shine. Through practical methods, your glasses will regain their original shine, and you won’t have to throw away your favorite ones. Here are the details…

Why Do Glasses Become Cloudy?

Like all other household items, glasses wear out over years of frequent use. Various factors cause cloudiness and staining on glasses that continue to be used as long as they don’t break. Discoloration, limescale buildup due to tap water, and detergent residue caused by low-quality rinse aids can accumulate on your glass, causing it to lose its shine. Once cloudiness begins, it can be cleaned with baking soda, vinegar, and toothpaste; however, to avoid encountering this issue altogether, you can choose the right rinse aid and clean your glasses with vinegar at regular intervals. Vinegar not only removes stains but also restores shine to your glasses and prolongs the clouding process.

How to Polish Cloudy Glasses?

Glasses become scratched and cloudy over time due to dishwasher use, exposure to various chemicals, hard water, and frequent use that causes wear. We want to share with you how to polish your cloudy glasses using simple materials at hand without the need for chemical-laden cleaning products.

Methods for Polishing Cloudy Glasses

These methods, which offer a definitive solution for cloudy glasses, are also valid for scratched glasses. With these simple methods we will share, your glasses will regain their former shine. Here are those methods:

  1. Sprinkle some baking soda on a clean cloth and add vinegar. Then, use the cloth with dishwasher rinse aid to rub your glasses.
  2. Place your glasses in an empty pot and pour baking soda over them. Then, add dishwasher rinse aid. Pour boiling water into the pot after adding vinegar. Finally, add a little lemon salt. After waiting for a while, you can rinse your glasses. If you have sturdy glassware, you can boil it on the stove for a short time. Do not boil delicate and thin glasses.
  3. If you don’t have many materials at hand, you can also perform this process with just water and baking soda. Place water in one container and baking soda in another. You can easily do this with a dish sponge. First, wet the dish sponge with water, then rub your glasses with some baking soda, and rinse to polish your glasses.
  4. Another practical technique for solving cloudy glasses is using lemon, a cure-all. Cut the lemon in half and add salt on top. Use this salty lemon to rub the inner and outer surfaces of your glass. Then, wash and dry your glass. There will be no trace of cloudiness left.

In addition to the methods for polishing cloudy glasses, there are also some techniques to protect your glasses from scratches and cloudiness.

So, how to clean cloudy glasses?

A crucial precaution to prevent scratching and cloudiness of your glasses is not to neglect the maintenance and cleaning of your dishwasher. Adding dishwasher salt at 400 ml intervals to your machine will prevent your glasses from getting scratched and cloudy.

You can also run your machine empty with dishwasher cleaner products for maintenance and cleaning. If you run out of dishwasher rinse aid or no longer want to use chemicals, you can put vinegar in the rinse compartment of your machine. Vinegar will act as a rinse aid for your machine.

You can enhance the effect by putting lemon peels in the cutlery basket. To prevent cloudiness caused by hard water and limescale, you can attach a filter to your faucet head to improve water quality. It is also essential to clean your dishwasher’s filter at regular intervals to remove accumulated deposits. You can easily clean the filter area of your dishwasher using vinegar. Additionally, the cleaning and maintenance of the upper and lower propellers in the machine are crucial to prevent scratches. Over time, the propeller holes become clogged with deposits, causing water to disperse more forcefully, leading to scratches. You can carefully remove the propeller parts, clean the blockages in the holes with a needle, and use substances like vinegar to clean them. As a result, water will no longer scratch your glassware and kitchen utensils. Performing these cleaning tasks and applying the other maintenance suggestions mentioned every six months will ensure that your machine cleans optimally, without scratching, damaging, or clouding your glasses and all your kitchen utensils.

Toothpaste for Glass Polishing

It’s possible to restore your glasses to their original shine with this amazing method. With only two materials, you’ll no longer need to throw away, replace, or recycle your old and cloudy glasses. You’ll be amazed at the appearance and shine of your cleaned glasses using a refrigerator bag and toothpaste. Simply apply a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to a refrigerator bag, then rub it onto your glass using your hand covered with the bag, and rinse. Your glasses will now look as good as new.
