A new financial district is being built near Shanghai’s old town. Designed by the British architecture studios Foster + Partners and Heatherwick Studio, the development of 420,000 square meters They include, among others, two 180-meter-high towers, offices, a boutique hotel, a wide variety of luxury commercial spaces and many and varied places of interest.
In the heart of the complex there is a building that functions as a cultural and artistic center. Called Bund Finance Center, account with a flexible façade that can be changed to radically alter its appearance.
Inspired by traditional Chinese theaters, the three-story building cFeatures a curtain facade of bronze tubes that resemble bamboos. These tubes hang in three layers, creating different semi-transparent screens in front of the windows and balconies.
When the design was first announced, the architects described this façade as “a moving veil that adapts to changes in building use«.
