Winter brings an irreplaceable source of vitamin C, while summer offers a unique and refreshing lemonade. Whether you spread it on bread or enjoy it by the spoonful, this jam is absolutely delightful. Jams are an indispensable part of the dining table. When made naturally, they are both satisfying and nutritious. Although preparation and cooking might not be easy, homemade jams are made because they are natural. At this point, lemons, which are a vitamin C powerhouse during the winter, can also be turned into jam, effectively combating colds and nasal congestion.

Not Trash, A Unique Flavor!

For years, we’ve wasted lemon peels by throwing them away. However, they can actually be used to make a delicious breakfast jam. The only cost is sugar. This jam, made with sugar, lemon peel, lemon salt, and water, will become a staple of breakfast tables. You’ll never get enough of this lemon peel jam that you can spread on bread, cookies, or biscuits. Here are the necessary ingredients:

  • 10 lemons
  • ½ teaspoon lemon salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 cups water

For a delicious lemon peel jam, choose lemons with thick peels.

How to Make Lemon Peel Jam?

  1. Grate the peels of 10 lemons, making sure not to include the white parts. Then, let them sit overnight to remove any bitterness.
  2. Boil the peels the next day until they are soft.
  3. Mix all the ingredients and boil them to make the jam.
  4. After it has cooled, transfer the jam into jars and enjoy!

Step-by-Step Lemon Jam Recipe

  1. Wash the lemons thoroughly and grate the peels, being careful not to include the white parts.
  2. Peel the white outer layer from two of the grated lemons. Then, make cuts with a knife.
  3. Place the lemon peels and peeled lemons in a pot, add 2 cups of water, and let them sit overnight.
  4. The next day, boil the peels and lemons until they become soft (approximately 15-20 minutes).
  5. Remove the lemons and cut them in half, setting aside the insides. Remove the cooked lemon peels from the water and drain any excess liquid.
  6. In a pot, combine the cooked lemon peels, lemon insides, granulated sugar, and lemon salt. Add 2 cups of water.
  7. Cook the jam, stirring until the water is absorbed and the sugar has dissolved. Then, let it cool at room temperature.
  8. Once cooled, transfer the jam to a jar for storage, and enjoy at your leisure.

Key Points for Lemon Peel Jam

  • When making jam, be careful to grate the lemon peels finely. This will prevent a bitter taste in your jam.
  • Letting the lemon peels sit overnight helps remove bitterness and enhances the flavor of the jam.
  • The boiling time for lemon peels may vary depending on their softness. Continue boiling until the peels have softened.
  • To determine the consistency of the jam, pour some onto a plate using a wooden spoon. If it spreads quickly, cook it a bit longer; if it’s the right consistency, remove it from the heat.
