They say that the internet service in Lebanon leaves much to be desired as there is only one fiber cable that reaches the country, which makes the connection slow, unstable and expensive. Also, before traveling, we found quite a few comments explaining how difficult it is to find restaurants with Wi-Fi in the country. But, after our trip, we can only certify that SIM cards are expensive in relation to the time that is usually spent in the country. Of the rest, there is no need to worry, because the lion is not as fierce as they paint it.

Phone shop Beirut

We cannot share the opinions that we had previously consulted on the internet use in lebanon. Despite the fact that for the price, it did not compensate us to buy a SIM card for the eight days that we were going to spend in the country, we can say that it was not difficult to access the internet at any time, since both in the Beirut Hotel and in the restaurants and cafes we were in (from all over the country), Wi-Fi access was free for customers and the speed, like anywhere, depended a bit on the number of customers connected to the network.

There are two phone companies in Lebanon: Touch Y Alpha and both have similar prices, although they say that Alfa has better coverage in more remote areas.

To acquire a prepaid card, it is necessary to present your passport and the operators can call you after the purchase to verify your identity, blocking the card if you do not do so.

There are Touch and Alfa stores at Bierut Airport and in the main neighborhoods of the capital.

Touch is managed by a company from Saudi Arabia and is the leading company in Lebanon with about 70% of users.

Touch has a visitor plan which costs $39 and includes 10GB, 100 minutes and 100 SMS. The package is valid for 14 days and the line for one year.

To renew the package, text VB to 1100.

To recharge, dial *200* xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (14-digit secret code)# and press OK.

To check the balance, package details and validation, dial *220# and press OK

To see the last three activities, dial *210# and press OK.

The visitor line is available at Beirut International Airport.

The package does not renew automatically, but after 14 days, it is deactivated and must be activated again.

In order to buy the visitor package, you must present a stamped passport with a stay in the country of no more than three months.

Alpha

The Alpha company in Lebanon is managed by an Egyptian company.

It also offers prepaid SIM cards and has shops at the Beirut airport.

Your cheapest offer is Alfa365 package for 7 days. It is a 1-year line with active plans for one week that includes local and international calls, 2GB, 30 minutes and 100 rechargeable SMS for $15.

Cards are purchased at alpha stores for $18 and $3 for registration.

To renew the plan or if all the data has been used up, you have to send an SMS to 1050 putting RA. You can also renew your plan by dialing *111# and following the prompts.

Also, Alpha has a data only package in which you have to pay $18.87 for the card with a validity period of 30 days
