We tour the Costa del Azahar and its fantastic beaches

In Castellón, and bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, is the Costa del Azahar. Nothing less than 120 kilometers of fantastic beaches and coves. The name comes from the orange flower, cultivated throughout the region. Will you join us to tour it?

The Costa del Azahar is protected by the Sierra de Irta, the Prat Cabanes-Torreblanca wetland, the Desert of Las Palmas and the Columbretes Islands (56 kilometers from the beach). An area of ​​the Spanish coast, therefore, of enormous beauty.

The towns that follow one another were small fishing villages. But a few decades ago they changed completely to welcome the thousands of visitors who come to enjoy the sun and its fantastic beaches. Towns such as Nules, Moncófar, Benicasim, Burriana, Oropesa del Mar, Alcoseebre or the historic Peñíscola

But on the Costa del Azahar not everything is lying in the sun. Throughout the year it is the scene of outstanding festivals that gather thousands of people. Among them, the Benicassim International Festival, the Arenal Sound Festival in Burriana and the Electroplash Music Festival in Vinaroz stand out.

The best beaches on the Costa del Azahar

We already said that most of the tourists who come to this area in summer look for a lot of sun, beautiful beaches and transparent waters to take a dip or play sports. And it’s not for nothing, since hehe Costa del Azahar offers spectacular beaches.

1. Els Terrers Beach (Benicasim)

With a length of 1750 meters this beach is made up of golden sand and gravel and is oval in shape. In addition, it draws attention for its breakwaters that protect the beach from sea currents and therefore make it an ideal place for a quiet bath or baptisms in water sports.

In Els Terrers there is a sailing school and An international music, theater, fashion and film festival takes place in July.

2. North Beach (Peñíscola)

It is 5 kilometers long and is the most important in the municipality. A beach of fine sand that starts from the old part of the town. Its surroundings are more than picturesque and attractive, since from any point of it, even from the most distant, we can see the silhouette of the castle.

On the North Beach we can practice sailing, canoeing, water skates or jet ski. From the promenade there are also good views of the Templar castle of Papa Luna.

3. Carregador Beach (Alcossebre)

It is not a large beach, it is barely 750 meters long, but stands out for its white and clean sand. A beach that has a small marina at one end and an ecologically important dune area at the other.

With a small promenade, It is an urban beach with very easy access. Next to it is another of the best-known beaches in the municipality, La Romana.

4. El Gurugú Beach (Castellón de la Plana)

At one end there is a promenade that reaches the road on the way to Benicassim. This long beach houses the headquarters of the Círculo Mercantil e Industrial, with its restaurant on the sand. Behind the sea we can see the headquarters of the Aeroclub Castellón. Activities at El Gurugú beach last until dawn in the summer.

5. La Concha Beach (Oropesa del Mar)

bay-shaped, this is a perfect beach to go with children, since its waters are usually very calm and shallow. In addition, its sands are fine and during the summer all kinds of free activities are offered, from taichi to children’s games.
