What to do in Malta: 5 essential activities

Many times we don’t need to go to the other side of the world to enjoy a little paradise. An example is Malta, where the sun shines all year round. A perfect place to do different activities, from tourism to partying, through studying English or learning to dive. We tell you about some of the activities you can do in Malta.

1. Learn to dive

As we anticipated, Malta is a perfect place to learn to dive. Its warm and clean waters allow you to discover what the bottom of the Mediterranean has prepared. And the best thing is that you can do it at any time.

Most of the diving schools are located on the islands of Malta and Gozo. Best of all, they have quite affordable prices compared to other places. Whether you are an expert diver or this is your first time, the waters of Malta are perfect.

The only problem will be deciding where to make your raid. And there are many interesting places worth discovering: the Blue Lagoon of Comino, Marsalform Beach, Ghar Lapsi…

The seabed of Malta, in addition to a great natural wealth, hides the remains of countless ships and planes sunk in the area during the world wars.

2. Get to know Valletta, something you must do in Malta without excuses

Valletta is one of those unfairly little-known capitals. Of course it is not because it does not have dozens of interesting places. In fact, its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is one of the densest places in the world from a cultural point of view, since within its wonderful wall it has more than 300 monuments. Do not forget to discover the secrets of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem or the Knights of Malta. And be prepared to walk and climb its many slopes.

3. Discover Marsaxlokk

Behind that difficult name hides one of the most special places in Malta. It is a small fishing village with just over 3000 inhabitants and a lot of charm.

But without any doubt, the most striking are the boats moored in its port. These are characterized by their bright colors and, above all, by the eyes on the bow. One of those different things that you must do in Malta to fully enjoy its essence.

4. Visit Gozo

Malta is made up of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino. Although you may not have time to visit all of them, it is highly recommended (if not mandatory) to visit at least the two main ones. Therefore, spending at least one day in Gozo is necessary to complete your stay.

Don’t miss the city of Victoria nor the beautiful landscapes that the island can offer you. One of those that take your breath away are those of the Blue Window. Although the stone arch collapsed in 2017, the area is still impressive. Also, if you’re a fan of Game of Thrones It will sound familiar to you, because the Khaleesi and Khal Drogo got married there.

5. Enjoy the sun and the water

Although it is one of the best-known islands in the Mediterranean, the truth is that Malta has few sandy beaches. Rocky pools or even natural pools carved by the sea itself are much more common.

One of the best areas is the Sliema, where you can bathe, relax and enjoy the atmosphere, especially at sunset. Another good option is St. Julian’s or Spinola Bay. All highly recommended.

If you still want to know a beach, the best beach is Mellieha Bay, fine sand, bars and tourists. In addition, you can practice some water sports or rent a motorized mattress (it is something quite curious). You can even visit Popeye Village on the same day, a kind of very cinematographic theme park.

This is just a short list of all the things you can do in Malta. This is an archipelago where surprises await you almost in every corner. Do you write it in your list of destinations?
